French Riviera

Private chef on the French Riviera

Between the Saint-Tropez peninsula and the Italian border, every stretch of coast has its own houses, constraints and seasons. The chef is chosen for the place as much as for the menu.

One coastline, but no single way of entertaining

People speak of the French Riviera as one territory. Seen from inside the houses, it is the opposite. A villa on the Saint-Tropez peninsula, a Monaco apartment, a mas in the hills behind Grasse and an estate on Cap d’Antibes are lived in differently, and do not call for the same chef.

The differences are concrete. The size and equipment of the kitchen, first. Whether staff are already in place, second. How close the markets and growers are, which governs daily sourcing. And travel time, which simply determines who can sustain a long assignment without burning out.

This page exists to answer one precise question: depending on where your house is, what actually changes in organising a private chef?

Three use cases

Three ways of calling on a chef along the coast

  • The holiday villa

A house rented for a week or two, often with arrivals and departures on the same day. The chef has to find his feet fast, in a kitchen he is seeing for the first time, and understand within twenty-four hours how a family he has never met actually works.

  • The second home

Owners return several times a year. What matters then is continuity: the same chef, who knows the house, the habits and the tastes, so that each stay does not start from zero.

  • The seasonal residence

Months of occupancy, guests coming and going, a rhythm that changes week to week. Here the chef becomes part of the household, and the question of service staff almost always arises alongside.

Seasonality

The calendar decides

From June to September the coast concentrates most of the demand, and the most sought-after chefs are booked months ahead. A request made in May for the first half of August leaves a narrow choice; the same request in February opens a far wider field.

Off season the situation reverses: lead times shorten, profiles free up, and single evenings or weekends are easy to arrange. Owners living here year-round make good use of that.

If you know your dates, even loosely, say so early. It commits you to nothing and changes considerably what can be proposed.

Where we work

This list indicates where assignments are arranged, not permanent availability in each of them. For the most distant towns, feasibility depends on the length of the assignment and the period, and is checked case by case.

Frequently asked

A private chef on the Riviera

01Do you cover Saint-Tropez and Monaco?

Yes, both are within the areas covered. Feasibility depends on duration, though: a week or a season is easier to arrange than a single service at the far end of the coast, where travel time weighs heavily.

02Is the chef accommodated on site for long assignments?

It depends on the house and the duration. For a season or a distant assignment, living in simplifies the organisation considerably. Mention it with your request, as it shapes which profiles are suitable.

03Can I have the same chef from one stay to the next?

It is often desirable and regularly possible, subject to availability on your new dates. Owners of second homes who return several times a year do well to announce their periods early for this reason.

04How does this differ from the Cannes page?

The Cannes page covers assignments in the town and its immediate surroundings, where most of the activity is concentrated. This page covers the rest of the coast, where distance, seasonality and property type change the organisation.

05Do you also place household staff across the Riviera?

Yes. Butlers and household staff can be proposed for a stay or for a year-round post, depending on available profiles and the location of the property.
